Due to political uncertainty in Romania, Commission postpones part of payment of balance of payments aid

Brussels, 06/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have decided to postpone the next payment of multilateral aid totalling 20 billion euros to Romania, pending the formation of a new government. Although the authorities' performance in the framework of the programme has been satisfactory, "the current political environment is hindering further fiscal consolidation which remains necessary", the Commission notes in a press release published...
