Brussels, 26/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 26 October, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and ADIF (Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias) signed a framework agreement which will see the EIB providing €5 billion in funding for construction work on the Spanish high speed train network. The agreement establishes that EIB-funded projects will be carried out between 2010 and 2015 and will concern: high-speed links (HSL) Madrid-Badajoz (in the direction of Lisbon), Madrid-Alicante-Murcia, and Valladolid-Burgos-Vitoria, extension of the Atocha station in Madrid, construction of a high-speed underground link between the Madrid Atocha and Madrid Chamartín stations, construction of the third and fourth lines of the high-speed section between Torrejón de Velasco and Madrid and the Valladolid-Galicia HSL. The agreement signed is the third of this kind, following those signed in 2002 and 2006 with the Spanish Infrastructure Ministry, each worth €10 billion. (O.L./transl.rt)
