21/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - Italian EPP member Mario Mauro called on the president of the European Parliament to investigate into the “characterisation of violation” of immunity enjoyed by MEPs. He put this request to the plenary on Wednesday 21 October saying that a member of his delegation, Clemente Mastella, had had a search carried out at his home in Italy, while he was away at the session in Strasbourg. According to the Italian press, the search was targeted at the MEP's wife who was placed under inquiry concerning 63 persons suspected of embezzlement in the context of a public procurement contract relating to the regional environment agency and awarded by the region of Campania, where Ms Mastella was president of the region.
