08/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, Commissioner Jacques Barrot declined to give anything away about the speech he will make to the European Parliament on 14 July to announce which countries will be concerned by the proposed visa exemption regime for visits to the EU. "We are moving towards a proposal to remove visas for a number of Balkan countries", he stressed at a press conference. Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro are likely to be among the countries to be included in a proposal of this kind (EUROPE 9936). "I believe that we have taken the necessary precautions to ensure that this liberalisation can take place by the end of the year. I believe that the dossier we are to present is sufficiently well supported to be convincing", the commissioner announced. (B.C./transl.fl)
