08/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 8 July, European Commissioner for Justice, Liberty and Security Jacques Barrot confirmed that he has postponed the presentation of a proposal granting police forces of the member states and Europol access to the database which includes the digital fingerprints of asylum seekers (Eurodac). "For purely technical reasons, we have decided to hang fire with our new proposal, so that we can integrate Parliamentary amendments", he said, adding that he was absolutely certain that the text would be put forward in the autumn (EUROPE 9937). The text was due to have been presented on Wednesday. "It is our intention to make Eurodac available to the police services under extremely limited circumstances", he said. (B.C./transl.fl)
