12/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the opening of the Guantanamo detention centre, Amnesty International (AI) calls on the German EU Presidency to assume a leadership role in international human rights policy in various sectors (terrorism, immigration, etc). “We call on the German government to make a visible contribution towards the protection of human rights”, said Barbara Lochbihler, AI Secretary-General for Germany, on 11 January. She also called on the Presidency to clarify the way to prevent further CIA flights in Europe. (bc)
