04/08/2006 (Agence Europe) - Between 2002 and 2006, the EU allocated around €900 million in aid to the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC). A considerable portion of this aid came from the European Development Fund (EDF). In total, €475 million will have been allocated to the DRC as part of the 9th EDF by 2008. Infrastructure (around €80 million) and health (€80 million) are among the EU's main priorities for action in RDC. In the last case, the Commission granted €5 million and the Council €585,000 from the ESDP to create integrated police units, trained and equipped with the help of Member States (€1,135,000 in financial contributions and €1,123,000 in kind).
