16/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - In a press release sent out on the 12 March, German Social Democrat Ulrich Stockmann expressed concerns about possible economic repercussions from a possible human flu pandemic, particularly for the air transport sector. The MEP recalled the previous SARS outbreak and pointed to the possibility of a mutation of the H5N1 avian flu virus. He called for the definition of common measures for fighting against a possible pandemic; guaranteeing their neutrality against competition; the setting up of 25 single contact points; the granting of coordination competency to the European Centre for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, with a team of experts on call 24 hours a day and the organising of passenger traceability for analysing the route taken by contaminated persons.
