13/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - Ahead of the 22 September referendum in Switzerland on the free circulation of individuals, Henri Rieben, President of the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe (based in Lausanne) has issued a message to fellow Swiss, explaining that at the Jean Monnet Foundation, committed Swiss and European citizens aim to accomplish their civil duty by voting Yes, and advising their friends and family to do the same. He said that the history of Switzerland was a small model of Europe of many peoples coming together and, like Europe, obeyed two complementary imperatives, unity and diversity. Professor Rieben said his message also concerned citizens of the nations that make up the European Union, hoping they would find in his message an expression of the feeling that unites Switzerland with Europe, in the words of Jean Monnet, we shall not be a coalition of states, we are a unity of human beings.
