13/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - "The European Union's policy towards Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine: the role of organised civil society" is the theme of a colloquium to be held in Brussels on 19 January by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). The President of the "External Relations" section of the EESC, Ann Davidson, will open the work. The subjects to be dealt with will be: 1) EU policy: a new momentum? Exchange of views on the European neighbourhood policy; 2) migration: situation of legal and illegal migrants; 3) environment for investment and trade relations; 4) challenges for people to people dialogue. Karin Alleweldt, president of the EESC's contact group on Eastern European neighbours, and Gerhard Lohan, head of unit at the European Commission's DG External Relations, will conclude the day's work.
