11/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament rapporteur for Romania, British Liberal Democrat Emma Nicholson, is sticking to her guns: accession negotiations with Romania should be suspended until the country comes into line with all the political accession criteria, she repeated last week in Bucarest, where she met President Ion Iliescu, and Prime Minister Adrian Nastase. Ms Nicholson notably criticised the "unacceptable" way in which the government practises the international adoption of Romanian children, despite the moratorium which has existed since 2001. "Romania is a candidate country to the EU, by the Member States of the EU do not export their children", she told the press in Bucarest. The EP's committee on foreign affairs will debate Ms Nicholson's request next week (18 February).
