Ban on entry to Community territory for twelve individuals obstructing implementation of Ohrid agreement

Brussels, 11/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday the EU adopted by written procedure a common position imposing restrictions on the entry and movement in Community territories due to their obstruction of the Ohrid framework agreement concluded on 13 August 2001, which put an end to the armed conflict in Macedonia. This sanction was approved at the External Relations Council on 27 January to sanction individuals involved in or encouraging "violent activities challenging the Ohrid Framework Agreement's basic principles of stability, territorial integrity and the unitary and multiethnic character" of the state, as well as those who deliberately, repeatedly and illegitimately obstruct and undermine "the concrete implementation of the agreement by actions outside the democratic process" (EUROPE 28 January p 4). As this common position has been formally ratified, this sanction is applicable from 10 February for a period of twelve months. The individuals concerned are: Adili Gafur, Bajrami Hamdi, Butka Spiro, Georgievski Goran, Hyseni Xhemail, Jakupi Avdil, Rexhepi Daut, Samiu Izair, Rushiti Sait, Stojkov Goran, Sulejmani Fadil, Sulejmani Gyner.
