06/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - MEP from the Lista Bonino, Gianfranco Dell'Alba, mentioned the question of a definitive HQ for the European Food Safety Agency(which is temporarily in Brussels) to the former Finnish Prime Minister, Paavo Lipponen who is currently President of the Finnish Parliament and who was on a visit to Strasbourg on Wednesday. In a press statement, Mr Dell'Alba asserted that Mr Lipponen had answered his question on "his presumed agreement with Mr Berlusconi" concerning the Agency and confirmed that, "Finland continued to exert pressure to have a Food Safety Agency in Helsinki, whereas Palma would host the unlikely unity in charge of typical designations". Mr Dell'Alba added that Mr Lipponen s "convinced that a decision on this subject will be taken a the European Council of Thessaloniki" and reckoned that this second "structure, which currently employed (as a Commission service) around five people but would be expected to have a personnel of around forty officials".
