06/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - MEP Fodé Sylla (GUE, France) will be in the United States on 7 December to meet Mumia Abu Jamal on death row. He will be accompanied by Angela Davies, leader of the American black movement. Mr Sylla will also meet the latest judge at the Court of Appeal of the State of Pennsylvania and the Mayor of Philadelphia. The journalist, Mumia Abu Jamal was sentenced to death in 1981 for the murder of the police officer, Daniel Faulkner, recalls Mr Sylla in a press release. He explains that an appeal by Abu Jamal had been rejected by the Court of the State of Philadelphia. "Despite the concrete avowal of Arnold Beverly in 1999, who admits to the murder of Faulkner, the courts in Pennsylvania continue to demand that Abu Jamal pay for being black and for having dared denounce police exaction committed in Pennsylvania twenty years ago", addes the press release.
