19/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - By presenting, on Tuesday, its priorities for the Belgian Presidency of the EU (EUROPE will return to this issue), the Minister for Home Affairs Antione Duquesne stated that State security would monitor the organisations that have called for demonstrations during the Laeken Summit, adding that Belgium would apply "zero tolerance" towards the International of violence". Antoine Duquesne foresaw to resort to methods and techniques used during the Euro 2000 (European football championships with national squads), in other words border checks and explosions. The Minister will soon get in touch with his German and French colleagues on this issue. For Mr Duquesne, we should not live in Belgium a Gothenburg mark 2: Belgium has a certain degree of experience in terms of demonstrations and succeeded with Euro 2000 in a particularly difficult test" he stated.
