04/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - Slovak Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda announced on Thursday that he had called for the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Pavol Hamzik for serious errors committed in the framework of the affair of the alleged misappropriation of Community funds (notably PHARE) in Slovakia. Mr. Dzurinda notably accuses Mr. Hamzik of not having informed the government sufficiently early of accusations levelled by the Commission, nor of the suspension of Community aid on 6 April (of which Mr. Dzurinda is said to have learnt through the press). On 27 April, the suspension of pre-accession and PHARE aid for Slovakia was lifted.
