25/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Spanish anti-corruption prosecutors' office called on Tuesday for the opening of an investigation into the delay by the Spanish administration in responding to a European Parliament consultation concerning the request for the lifting of the parliamentary immunities of Silvio Berlusconi and Marcello Dell'Utri, both suspected of having covered up a tax fraud of 108 million euro in the framework of the management of the private television station Telecinco. According to an order presented to Judge Baltasar Garzon on Tuesday, the anti-corruption prosecutor Carlos Castesana calls for an investigation to establish whether this delay (the EP's request remained unanswered between August 2000 and March 2001 before being handed to the State Council) was due to an "obstruction of justice".
