25/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The President of Montenegro has "probably no intention of hurrying to organise a referendum" on the independence of this Yugoslav republic, declared Sven-Olof Petersson, senior Swedish official, at the end of a meeting, in Podgorica on Tuesday, between the Montenegrin authorities and the EU Troika he was heading. After the meeting, aimed at keeping up the pressure to avoid a referendum on independence, "the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council adopted a declaration in which it calls for a "quick resumption of the dialogue between Belgrade and Podgorica on its future federal relations", and stresses that Sunday's legislative elections "showed clearly that Montenegrin society is almost evenly divided about its future".
