06/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - After a slight increase the previous month, the business climate indicator in the euro zone declined markedly in January, going from 1.23 to 0.95. The European Commission's Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs which renders these figures public, stresses that this is still historically quite high. Nevertheless it confirms the downward trend registered since last August, with the slowing down in the growth of industrial production, growth which, however, is still well above its 1986 and 200 average. In fact, the trend in the indicator points to good but more cautious confidence of industrial firms in the euro area.
