30/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The CDU elected member, Konrad Schwaiger, said in a press release that he felt the European Parliament should rapidly finalise its catalogue of requests to WTO negotiators, with a view to the meeting from 5 to 7 February in Geneva, the WTO Committee on Agriculture and the meeting planned in March in order to establish an inventory concerning the next round of trade talks. Article 97, par.5, of the EP Regulation authorises the Committee on External Trade to present recommendations at any moment, that should take the position of the agriculture committee into account, said Mr Schwaiger, recalling that the latter committee is currently reviewing some twenty proposals. The Parliament is expected to fix its position by mid-March, so that its ideas may be included in the Commission's strategy, said Mr Schwaiger.
