30/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - In his comments on the latest declarations by Franz Fischler to the EP Committee on Agriculture (see EUROPE of 25 January, p.12), COPA President Noël Devisch regretted that the Commission uses the BSE crisis as a pretext for relaunching its idea of reforming the CAP. He continued by saying: "This can but increase the confusion among farmers, who more than ever before need stability for carrying out their activities, and does not correspond to the spirit of the decisions of the Berlin Summit. For my part, I do not accept the criticism expressed by Mr Fischler against member States and farming organisations, for not having accepted its ideas and proposals".
