26/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - Jörg Mittelsten Scheid, President of Eurochambres (which gathers together the European Chambers of Commerce and Industry), presented to the European Parliament's Economic and Social Committee, Chaired by the German Christian Democrat Christa Randzio-Plath the results of the survey carried out by Eurochambres according to which, less than one year from the introduction of the Euro, the state of readiness of European companies for the single currency, and in particular the small enterprises, is "alarming." However, the Eurochambres President also added an optimistic note, by telling the MEPs that 71% of businessmen questioned in the framework of the pilot phase of the "European Business Panel" project answered to the following question: "Do you think that the Euro will increase you identification with the European integration process? Do you feel more European?". (For more information on the project, see the website: http: //http://www.eurochambres.be/whatwedo/ebp.htm ).
