22/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Brussels attacks have damaged growth in airline passenger traffic. The attacks on the Belgian airport of Zaventem last March (see EUROPE 11522) have led to a slowdown in demand from airline passengers and a direct loss of 2 million passengers since January, explained ACI-Europe, the organisation representing the airport sector in Europe, on Tuesday 21 June. As a result, cumulative passenger traffic growth since January has been lower than forecast and stands at 6.4%, instead of 6.9%. The situation must therefore be considered as fragile, warned Olivier Jankovec, ACI-Europe Director-General. Although the sector is feeling the beneficial effects of the economic improvement in the Eurozone and low oil prices, it is still concerned by the level of "geopolitical" risks such as terrorism and the referendum on 23 June on the United Kingdom remaining in the European Union (see other article).
