Mogherini underlines crucial importance of implementing agreements

Brussels, 22/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 21 June, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said during a meeting with Kosovo's President Hashim Thaci that it was “of paramount importance” that all past Serbia-Kosovo dialogue agreements be “implemented fully and in good faith by both sides”.

“A visible and sustainable improvement in relations between Kosovo and Serbia is needed so that normalisation of relations can take deeper roots and that both can continue on their respective European paths”, Mogherini added, according to a press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS).

The meeting between Mogherini and Thaci also provided the opportunity for them to discuss the development of relations between the EU and Kosovo, including the possible future liberalisation of visas, for which Kosovo must continue to uphold the commitments it has taken. Mogherini and Thaci agreed that a swift and thorough implementation of the stabilisation and association agreement (the first contractual agreement between Kosovo and the EU) was “crucial” because it will help Kosovo improve its socio-economic situation, according to the EEAS.

In addition, Mogherini and Thaci hailed the extension of the mandate of rule of law mission in Kosovo, EULEX, by the Assembly of Kosovo on 15 June. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
