11/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - EBB accuses Polish biodiesel market operators of fraud. At the beginning of March, the European Biodiesel Board (EBB) alerted national member state authorities and the European Commission's Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) to “important and increasing trade distortions” of the EU internal market due to fraud from certain operators in the Polish biodiesel market. EBB accuses these operators of taking advantage of aid granted by the Polish state to export biodiesel in a form blended with fossil fuel to other member states (especially Romania, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy) at very low prices. According to EBB, around 20,000 to 25,000 tonnes are reportedly exported per month. EBB also denounces double-counting in the greenhouse gas emission reductions as part of the renewables directive - once in Poland, and then a second time in the country where the biodiesel is exported.
