11/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU support in fight against corruption and possession of illegal assets. The EU delegation in Tunis states that the EU is bringing its support to Tunisia in its fight against “confiscation” (corruption, illegal assets) and considers that “the recovery of assets is an important dimension of its partnership with its neighbours from the South, including Tunisia”. New legislation is currently being developed on this for which the content was facilitated by a seminar that took place in Tunis on 3-4 March, organised by the Tunisian authorities in collaboration with the EU and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI). The EU delegation in Tunis states that the project is “aimed at introducing new approaches and new ways of designing judicial procedures to confiscate illegal assets which are the fruit of acts of corruption or money laundering, by introducing a new civil dimension in the hunt for these goods”.
