The quantity of cheese that had not been used by the deadline of 15 January 2016 under the temporary system of aid for private storage (which started exceptionally on 15 October 2015) - in other words 68,123 tonnes, although the ceiling was set at 100,000 tonnes - was shared by the European Commission on Wednesday 17 February among the member states that wanted to continue using this arrangement. 4,127 tonnes of cheese will thus be eligible in Ireland, 6,340 tonnes in France, 27,025 tonnes in Italy, 2,616 tonnes in Lithuania, 16,526 tonnes in the Netherlands, 694 tonnes in Finland, 2,126 tonnes in Sweden and 8,669 tonnes in the UK. Applications for aid will have to be submitted by 30 September at the latest. (LC)
