19/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - OMV puts investment needed to build Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline at €10 billion. On Friday 19 February, Russian news agency Itar-tass reported that Austrian energy group OMV - which together with four other Western groups (BASF and E.ON from Germany, Engie from France, and Shell from the UK and the Netherlands) is a member of the consortium led by Russian gas company Gazprom to build the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline - estimates the investment needed for this construction at €10 billion. “We are investing in a project with a reliable and high level of profitability, its economic feasibility is amazing”, said OMV's CEO Rainer Seele. He added that Austria wants to strengthen its position as a major player in the Central European gas market with this project, and that OMV can play a strategic role in supplying south-east Europe. Nord Stream-2 aims to double the capacity of the German-Russian Nord Stream gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea from 55 to 110 billion cubic metres per year. This Nord Stream-2 project is meeting with great resistance from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. (EH)
