02/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - A further €62 million for UNICEF. On Thursday 1 October, the EU and UNICEF signed three new contracts for a total of €62 million in order to enable nearly 2.4 million children to have access to teaching in a safer environment in Syria, Lebanon and Turkey. Part of this support will come from the Trust Fund for Syria. An amount of €12 million will be allocated to the second phase of the project on “Creating a path to Early Recovery for Education in Syria” on Syrian territory. An amount of €37.9 million will go to Lebanon to develop access to learning and healthcare, and for protecting children, which should help 460,000 children, women and carers. The remaining €12.5 million will contribute to increased access to quality and inclusive education for 200,000 Syrian and Turkish children and young people, in Turkey. (CG)
