26/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - EASO visit. European Migration and Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos visited the European Asylum Support office (EASO) in Malta on Thursday 26 March. During the visit, the commissioner was informed of the findings of pilot projects carried out in Italy and Malta on information gathering on migrant smuggling. Information provided by migrants is being used to build a data base on their traffickers, the methods used and the routes taken. The personal information of the migrants questioned is protected. In the long term, the data gathered will form a useful source of information and breakdown for the other players involved, such as Frontex. (SP)
