09/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - Protected names. The European Commission announced on Thursday 8 January that a further Slovenian product had been added to the register of protected designations of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indications (PGI). The pork sausage “Kranjska klobasa” has been given PGI status. The Official journal of the EU indicated a new Belgian PGI on Friday 9 January: “Potjesvlees uit de Westhoek”, a slightly sour preparation made of three types of white meats (chicken, veal and rabbit). The area of production is the Westhoek and surrounding communities (Coxyde, Nieuport, La Panne, Ypres et al) of West Flanders. These names have been added to the list of over 1,250 protected EU products. (LC)
