The Republic of Moldova could present its request for EU accession this year. “As far as I know, the authorities plan to send the official request for the EU this year”, said Victor Chirila, the executive director for Moldova's foreign policy association, at a conference. In Chirila's view, the authorities have not apparently discussed this with officials from the European Union but have reportedly decided to send their request in 2015. On 29 April 2014, the Moldovan prime minister, Iurie Leanca, announced that his country would like to become a member of the EU in the second half of 2019, during the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers.
