20/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - Jacques Delors calls for Parliament to be respected for next Commission president. On Tuesday 20 May, former European Commission president Jacques Delors said that the next Commission president should come from the majority designated by the European elections on 22-25 May - and not chosen by the European Council. “We have so many issues to resolve. We don't need to give ourselves an institutional crisis”, said Delors in an interview with France's Prime Minister Manuel Valls. “I think that in the current state of growing indifference and euroscepticism, it is really important to follow the opinion of the European Parliament, and thus to follow the elections”, he told journalists. European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has not ruled out that José Manuel Barroso's successor as president of the Commission should not come from among the five candidates presented by the big European political families (see EUROPE 11082).
