Brussels, 20/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Union has launched an electoral observation mission in Kosovo to observe the early elections on 8 June - in response to an invitation by Kosovo's President Atifete Jahjaga, said the European External Action Service (EEAS) on Tuesday 20 May.
High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton has appointed Roberto Gualtieri MEP (S&D, Italy) as chief observer for this mission. A core team of eight electoral analysts from the EU is being deployed to follow the electoral preparation, and it will be joined by over 80 observers in the coming days, according to the EEAS.
The EU also deployed an electoral observation mission from October 2013 until February 2014 for the municipal elections. (CG)
