20/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Major defeat for consumers. It was in those terms that BEUC, the European Consumers' Organisation, greeted the rejection by the European Parliament (EP) environment committee of proposals for compulsory front of the pack nutrition information, in the second reading vote (see EUROPE 10362). “In practical terms, this vote means that shoppers will not be able to easily find and compare crucial information on how much fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar there is in a food product. They will have to look for it, turn the products in all directions”, complained BEUC Director General Monique Goyens. (A.N./transl.rt)
