Brussels, 08/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - The energy audit conclusions carried out in July by the Assembly of the Regions of Europe (ARE) were unveiled on 7 October, for the Republika Srpska in Bosnia. The latter is a member of the energy community, has a “considerable potential” for producing thermic electricity from biomass (wood, solid agricultural and municipal waste), which is predominantly rural and has dense forest areas. Biomass is a local and neutral resource in terms of CO2 emissions and could have a positive impact on jobs and help the authorities apply the Kyoto agreement provisions signed by Sarajevo in 2008. In their recommendations, ARE experts underline the need to better use biomass in this region and develop more appropriate legislation, as well as better logistical management of the forests and an inventory of biomass used and a digital database for geographical information.
