21/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - On 9 October, Brussels will host a conference on EU-Mediterranean cooperation on renewable energy. In addition to European Commissioners Benita Ferrero-Waldner (External Relations) and Andris Piebalgs (Energy), the meeting will bring together some 60 ministers from the EU member states, the Mediterranean and Gulf countries and representatives of international organisations and financial institutions, industry and research institutes. The aim of the conference is to identify the challenges and opportunities for EU-Mediterranean renewable energy cooperation and to raise the profile of the various current Euro-Mediterranean energy projects, such as the Euro-Mediterranean energy market integration project, energy efficiency cooperation, Euro-Med energy regulators, the Action Plan for high priority renewable energy initiatives in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean project and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
