21/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - The planned departure of current European Agriculture Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel and the new European Parliament's ability to make political agreements on greater regulation of agricultural markets “gives room for hope that there will be a new approach with the Common Agricultural Policy on two conditions,” said Jean-Pierre Audy (EPP, France), after the EP debate and resolution on the dairy crisis: 1) that the European Parliament has the power of co-decision as conferred by the Lisbon Treaty, and 2) that agriculture “continues to be accepted so that political majorities can still be won on these issues”.
