Commission allocates further €53.5 million in emergency aid to drought victims in Africa

Brussels, 08/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has earmarked a further €53.475 million in additional humanitarian aid for vulnerable drought victims in Africa. The financing decisions, announced on Tuesday 8 September, were taken by the services of Karel De Gucht, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid.

The funds, which come from the ECHO budget (the Commission's humanitarian aid service), are distributed as follows: Somalia: €20 million, Kenya: €8...
