Brussels, 02/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 2 September, the European Commission adopted an amending letter for the preliminary draft budget for 2010. This includes additional funding of €95 million in commitment appropriations and €60 million in payment appropriations in support of the Palestinian Authority and reconstruction in Gaza. This amending letter will also help implementation, if needs be, of accompaniment measures in the banana sector and a possible trade agreement in this sector due to be signed with Most Favoured Nation (MFN) suppliers in Latin America. This agreement will affect the preferential trade regime with ACP banana suppliers. This amending letter ultimately includes the release of additional funds (€50 million in payment appropriations and €20 million in commitment appropriations) in view of achieving a successful outcome at the Copenhagen conference on climate change next December. This is the first amending letter on the 2010 budget. The second, which will be adopted in October, will focus on updating agricultural spending requirements. (L.C./trans/rh)
