Brussels, 31/08/2009 (Agence Europe) - According to national press, China will, this week, abandon its import system for car spare parts, which the WTO ruled to be discriminatory at the end of 2008. The Chinese Trade Ministry will publish a joint press release with other national administrations announcing the end of the system. Since April 2005, Beijing has been imposing 25% customs duties, rather than the usual 10%, on spare parts when they make up 60% or more of an assembled vehicle. Canada, the United States and the EU, deeming the Chinese import system to be discriminatory, referred the matter to the WTO at the end of 2006 (DS 339, DS 340 and DS 342). The WTO ruling against the system was upheld after appeal in Geneva in December 2008. (E.H./transl.rt)
