25/08/2009 (Agence Europe) - In mid-August the European Commission decided to grant financial support of €39 million to Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of the pre-accession instrument in order to help the country combat the effect of the economic crisis. Measures provide for the funding of investment in transport, environmental and energy infrastructure as well as support for small and medium-sized enterprises. Funding will be allocated to the Bosnian agency that guarantees bank deposits so that it may prevent capital leakage. It will also be used to mobilise loans from the international financing institutions (e.g. EIB, EBRD). The Commission announces it will adopt a second programme this autumn in favour of Bosnia-Herzegovina aimed at continuing national institution-building efforts. (M.B./transl.jl)
