Brussels, 25/08/2009 (Agence Europe) - Seeking a second term of office, the president of the European Commission has said that he will, next week, inform the political groups in the European Parliament of the priorities of his programme for the next five years. On the sidelines of his meeting with Lithuanian President and former Budget Commissioner Dalia Grybauskaité on Tuesday 25 August, José Manuel Barroso said that he intended to send his political strategy for the next Commission to the European Parliament “at the end of next week”. “The week afterwards I have already planned to meet the political groups that express that wish,” he also said in response to press questions. These hearings are scheduled for Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 September and a plenary session debate with the candidate is on the agenda for 15 September in Strasbourg (from 3.00pm). Only on 10 September, however, will the conference of the presidents of the political groups in the EP take a final decision on whether or not to hold a vote at 12 noon on 16 September confirming Barroso as a candidate for the post of Commission president.
