Developed and emerging countries hope to conclude in 2010

Brussels, 10/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - As announced earlier (EUROPE 9937), the leaders of the most industrialised countries (G8/Germany, Canada, United States, France, Italy, Japan, UK and Russia) and the largest emerging countries (South Africa, Brazil, China, India and Mexico), together with the leaders of Australia, South Korea, Egypt and Indonesia, who met in L'Aquila on 9 July, reaffirmed their “commitment to maintain and promote open markets and to reject all form of protectionism”. They also undertook to come to an ambitious and balanced conclusion to the Doha Round in 2010, calling, in order to achieve this, on their trade ministers to meet before the G20 summit on 24-25 September in Pittsburgh (USA).
