Brussels, 23/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - Meeting in Brussels on 23 June at the opening of the 5th session of the EU-Australia Dialogue on Trade, Catherine Ashton and Simon Crean agreed on the revised Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), which will make certification of goods for export, including medical apparatus, electrical goods and telecommunications equipment, simpler. The agreement refers to goods worth €8 billion in bilateral trade. On the eve of the informal meeting, on the sidelines of the OECD ministerial meeting in Paris on 24-25 June, devoted to the relaunch of the Doha Round, European Trade Commissioner Ashton and Australian Trade Minister Crean also repeated their commitment to getting these multilateral talks going once again. In a joint article in the Wall Street Journal on 22 June, they stress the importance of extending talks hitherto focused on agriculture and industrial goods to services and sectorals. (E.H./transl.rt)
