11/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - EU member states have given a mixed reaction to the European Commission's report of 21 April 2009 (see EUROPE 9886) considering eight criteria for a new classification of agricultural areas suffering from natural handicaps. The Special Agriculture Committee (SAC) is drafting a Council conclusions document but certain countries, like France, Germany, Poland, Austria and Luxembourg, do not agree with the Commission's idea for various reasons. The Commission wants the Council to agree with the ideas set out in the report in its conclusions document to be adopted on 22 June. The SAC will discuss the issue again on Monday 15 June.
