First “multilateral platform” on 5 June

Brussels, 04/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - Four weeks after the launch of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) on 7 May in Prague, the technical work for its implementation will begin this Friday 5 June in Brussels. The first Eastern Partnership (EaP) multilateral platform will focus on democracy, good governance and stability. Representatives from the six partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) as well as EU member states, the Council Secretariat, European Parliament, Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee will take part in the meeting. In a press release the Commission explained that two flagship projects will be presented in this first meeting: the “Integrated Border Management” programme and the “Prevention of, preparedness for, and response to natural and man-made disasters” project. The launch of three other multilateral platforms is also planned before the end of the month on: Contacts between people on 10 June; Energy security on 17 June; and Economic integration and convergence with EU policies on 26 June.
