29/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - Current External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner is the official Austrian candidate for the post of Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Paris. The former Austrian foreign minister Ferrero-Waldner, who will leave the Commission at the end of its term of office this autumn, is seeking to succeed Koichiro Matsuura of Japan, whose mandate expires this year.
