THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) poland/germany

27/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 27 May, the leader of the Polish opposition, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, expressed the view that it would be better for Polish parties, particularly the Civic Platform (PO) currently in power in Poland, to leave the EPP-ED Group at the European Parliament. According to the president of the Law and Justice Party (PiS), this kind of reaction is the only appropriate response to the electoral declaration voted on this Monday by the CDU/CSU which, Mr Kaczynski explained, condemns the expulsion of German citizens after the Second World War and calls for the rights of exiled Germans to be restored. In actual fact, the document makes only a general reference condemning all expulsions internationally and stating that the rights of expelled persons should be recognised. (A.By./transl.fl)
