29/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - At their bilateral summit in Madrid on Tuesday 28 April, France and Spain decided to set up an “Internal Security Planning and Strategic Coordination Committee” to work together to tackle terrorism and organised crime. This committee will meet every six months at the level of directors general of state security forces. A reciprocal warning procedure for specialist services is planned on terrorist use of the internet and on the growth of the Islamist threat in regions most at risk. The committee will also be responsible for tackling drugs trafficking and money laundering, with joint anti-drug units being set up. Joint operations will be conducted to dismantle illegal immigration routes. The two countries also want to organise joint flights to send illegal immigrants back to their countries of origin.
